I ran into an entrepreneur friend of mine the other night and asked him how his tourism-related business was doing. To my surprise, he said he had his best January ever–in a business driven 100% by discretionary income.

Why the solid results? He can’t say for sure, but he did recently beef up his sales force and got much more aggressive in the marketplace. Not only are his current sales up, he’s booking record credit card orders for future reservations.

Instead of feeling victimized by current events, he’s taking the bull by the horns and investing in growth. It’s a good example for us all.
